About the Position:

The Technical Designer takes direction and works with the Sr. Technical Designer or Manager of Technical Design to execute fit comments for the assigned product category.  Manages the sample development process and is responsible for generating computerized specification packages and maintaining them through fit approval.   Collaborates with production, product development, design and merchandising to ensure the quality, delivery and business practices are achieved and upheld.  Demonstrates the company’s Values & Practices by maintaining effective collaborative relationships, taking pride in the company and brand, and embracing diversity.

Responsibilities:

  • Protects brand integrity through fit continuity, upholding construction standards and consistency.

  • Attends all fittings and all relevant departmental meetings.

  • Captures team feedback during fittings and is responsible for the execution of the fit comments accordingly.  The Technical Designer will be responsible for conducting all fittings for their assigned product category. 

  • Follows up on e-mails from the overseas office regarding comments on fit, construction issues and grade rule/yield inquiries.

  • Partners up with QA during the Pre-Production Sample Process for their assigned product category.

  • Adheres to cross-functional calendar.

  • Assures seasonal deadlines are met for assigned areas/ manages the fit tracking process.

  • Identifies “at risk” styles to SR TD or Manager, reacting proactively, being on top of potential issues.

  • Attends department meetings, post line review CFT recaps, weekly CFT meetings, weekly development meetings and style fits.

  • People Management

    • Builds collaborative relationships with internal clients and overseas offices.

    • Interfaces professionally and works effectively in group settings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in a related field of study, or equivalent functional experience

  • 5 – 7+ years’ experience in sweater technical design experience of increasing responsibility in women’s apparel companies or manufacturers recognized as fashion industry leaders.  Specialty, vertically integrated retail strongly preferred.

  • Ability to evaluate fit problems on live models.

  • Knowledge of construction standards and manufacturing methods.

  • Knowledge of knit fabrications and sweater constructions, stitches, yarn size and gauge.

  • Understanding of grade rules.

  • Team oriented.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail oriented, with strong organizational capabilities and follow-up skills

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions

  • Ability to problem solve and be flexible/adaptable in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize execution of multiple tasks/projects.

  • Strong Computer knowledge (Karat & Bamboo Rose PLM) and drawing programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)

  • Proficient computer skills inclusive of MS Office programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally if required.

The target salary range for this role is: $85,000 - $90,000
