Merchandising Rotational Internship – Talbots 

The Merchandising Rotational intern will spend 3 weeks each in the following departments: Buying, Allocation, and Visual.   

Internship Details

Merchandising/Buying: 

  • Assist the team in weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting, analyzing performance, and business trends.  
  • Collaborate with internal partners to ensure accurate product representation for photo shoots and floor sets.   
  • Monitor and track purchase orders and inventory through receipt conciliation.  
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, shop competition and visit Talbots stores. 
  • Assist with sample organization for current business needs as well as future assortments 
  • Observe/understand the day-to-day responsibilities of the Merchant Team and how we work cross functionally with Planning, Marketing, Design, etc.  
  • Observe Line Building process and the various milestone meetings, starting from Spectrum through to Investment Review. 

Visual: 

  • Learn how to develop new concepts based on seasonal fashion trends and work with managers to develop and evolve concepts for presentation and display in store sets and catalog layouts  
  • Assist with monthly store set through merchandising techniques, fixture, and product placement.  
  • Contribute to sales opportunities based on merchandise sell-through and supply chain deliveries.  
  • Learn what goes into a web photo shoot with the possibility of working on set with the web stylists if there is photo shoot  
  • Learn about visual merchandising training in the field/stores by touring stores with a Regional Visual Manager.   

Allocation: 

  • Learn how to execute allocation strategies by floor set to support store allocation needs  
  • Collaborate with business partners at assortment review meetings to align on store allocation strategies  
  • Assist in pulling size selling analysis to help develop the breakdown of purchases by size for the Direct and Retail Store channels 

Internship Qualifications:

  • Authentic, curious, and passionate   
  • Enrolled in an accredited degree program  
  • Proficient with Microsoft office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills   
  • Detail oriented  
  • Ability to think strategically, conceptually, and creatively  

Program Details

  • The KnitWell Group Summer Internship Program welcomes the classes of 2025 and 2026 college students to work with several of our brands (Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant, LOFT, Talbots) and Corporate Shared Services to kick-start their career in retail. This immersive experience offers interns the opportunity to work hands-on with their department for 10-weeks and receive professional development opportunities including executive chats, professional workshops, store visits, etc., and participation in a collaborative team project.   
  • The pay rate for the position is $20.00/hr.  
  • KnitWell Group does not offer housing near any of our corporate office locations. Participating students must have the ability to independently secure and finance housing in a commutable distance of the office location.   
  • Applicants to this position must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.
