About the role
The Sweater Designer is responsible for creating innovative product designs through the seasonal vision of design concepts into a collection appropriate for the Talbots customer. The Designer will be instrumental in ensuring the designs are delivered in a timely fashion and within cost parameters while maintaining quality and brand aesthetic.

The impact you can have

  • Research competitive markets to identify and interpret trends, yarn innovation, and knit techniques to drive creative direction and product innovation
  • Develop seasonal sweater collections from concept through final design, in alignment with the Talbots brand identity and business strategy
  • Create detailed flat sketches of sweater designs using Adobe Illustrator with a high level of accuracy and technical precision
  • Build out yarns, stitches, and color palettes that translate the brand concept while delivering category needs
  • Prepare and present sketch boards and CADS for internal reviews
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Merchandising, Product Development, R&D, Sourcing, and Technical Design to ensure design intent is maintained from concept through bulk production in tandem with business goals
  • Partner with Technical Design on the execution of tech packs, specs, and BOMs to ensure product accuracy
  • Manage seasonal overlap simultaneously while adhering to calendar deadlines
  • Communicate clearly with overseas vendors and cross-functional teams
  • Maintain organized design files and libraries, including yarn, stitch, and sample archives.

You’ll bring to the role

  • Degree in Art and/or Design
  • 4+ years of experience in Women’s Sweater Design
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator for flat sketching is essential; portfolio must demonstrate strong technical drawing skills
  • Strong understanding of yarns, stitches, knitting constructions, and sweater manufacturing processes
  • Experience working with overseas vendors and understanding of product development timelines
  • Superior communication, organizational, and time-management skills

  • The target salary range for this role is: $85K - $95K
