Talbots' Training Store Managers: Meet Allyson E.

In our Training Store Manager series so far, we've introduced new Training Store Managers from both New York and New England. Today, we're putting the spotlight on another new manager from the Dallas-Fort Worth market, who has been part of Team Talbots for 7+ years. But first, we wanted to share a bit more about our training program for Store Managers joining Talbots.

Training Store Manager & Mentor Program

Embarking on a Store Manager role is an exciting milestone. At Talbots, new Store Managers have onboarding and training support from two key partners. First is a Training Store Manager who serves as a strategic advisor to new leaders over the course of their year-long learning journey. Second, new leaders are assigned a trained Mentor who is their weekly touchpoint. This is an associate steeped in training and development who provides one-on-one coaching and support.

What's unique about Training Store Managers is that they support multiple new Store Managers at the same time while also mentoring five or more Mentors. They are stewards of the integrity and evolution of the program, which is why we consider Training Store Managers the ultimate culture keepers.

Meet Allyson. Before her promotion to Training Store Manager, she was a Mentor for three years. In that role, she was a one-on-one coach for (7!) new Store Managers during their first year on the team. Read on as she shares her favorite aspect of working at Talbots (plus her go-to work style).

Q & A

Tell us about how your career began at Talbots.

I began my Talbots career as a Store Manager in February 2019 in Southlake, Texas. In August 2022, I was promoted to Market Manager and Mentor.

What has internal growth looked like for you specifically?

Internal growth at Talbots has meant expanding my scope of responsibility and influence, supporting brand initiatives, and training and mentoring new store leaders.

Tell us about your role. What does your job involve?

Over the past 3+ years as a Mentor, I have had the privilege to work side-by-side with 7 amazing new store leaders. Immediately building the relationship based on trust, open communication, and ongoing support is imperative.

What does mentorship at Talbots look like for new store leaders?

Our Learning Journey is a yearlong mentorship and training, immersing new leaders in our culture, listening, coaching and guiding them through their journey.

In my new role as Training Store Manager, I will be a Mentor to the Mentor. Partnering with the Mentors to support development, growth, and strengthen their leadership in the Mentor role.

Investing in our future store leaders is important to me because developing our internal talent reflects both my own growth at Talbots and the kind of leader I strive to be. I continue to reap the rewards from consistent internal development. Being part of training and developing our future leaders allows me to give back in a meaningful way. It deepens my sense of responsibility, keeps me focused on leading with intention, and allows me to contribute beyond my own store while continuing to uphold the culture and standards that define our brand.

What's one of your favorite parts about working at Talbots?

One of my favorite things about Talbots is our culture and our people. At Talbots, you will find a meaningful career where building relationships, embracing our culture, and growth and development are just a few of the things that make us special.

Describe your personal style.

My go-to work look is polished and classic. I love layering a fun blazer or our classic jean jacket with our Southampton pants or Barely Boot jeans. A pop of color from our newest collection always creates a great look and adds interest and inspiration.
