About the role
The Staff Accountant – Lease Accounting is primarily responsible for the accounting accuracy of occupancy costs within the Company’s financial statements as well as the preparation of various schedules, reconciliations, and account variance analyses relating to the monthly closing process.
The impact you can have
- Maintain the lease accounting system, Lucernex, including recording of ROU assets, Lease Liability, Tenant Allowances and the related accounts in a timely matter.
- Responsible for the monthly review and update of all ASC 842 schedules pertaining to lease amendments, modifications and closures in accordance with the executed lease documents and FASB ASC 842 requirements.
- Responsible for providing timely and accurate monthly account analyses, reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
- Review and process monthly accruals, coding requests, and posting errors
- Manage ad hoc reporting requests.
- Research certain technical accounting issues as they relate to the current role and develop process improvement efficiencies in the department.
- Maintain processes and procedures to ensure adherence to Lease Accounting and other corporate accounting policies.
- Regular interaction with various departments including Corporate Finance & FP&A; Real Estate Finance & Store Development; Store Operations; Corporate/Store Facilities Management; Accounts Payable; internal & external Tax & Audit partners
- Develop an understanding of Accounting’s workflow processes and the interdependency between other Departments in meeting monthly closing goals. Also develop a working relationship with the other brands to facilitate information sharing and to understand who our internal customers are and what their needs are.
- Work on special projects independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines and present results to management.
- Develop a continuous level of proficiency with a financial and information systems as they relate to the department.
- Assist with Audit Requests from independent auditors.
You’ll bring to the role
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 2-3 years accounting experience
- Basic knowledge of GAAP
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, specifically Excel
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to accept and adapt to a changing environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience with SAP and Hyperion
- Experience with Lucernex
- Experience with Oracle

This position works on-site at least 3 days per week consistent with the needs of the business at our Chico’s FAS office location in Ft Myers, FL. NOTE: We could also consider basing this role from our Talbots office in Hingham, MA.
